Did you know
[she asks me]
that the sun
tastes like lemon squares?

I did know
[I tell her]
but I thought
you were unaware.

Unaware?
[she is annoyed]
How can I help
but taste magnificence?

I am sorry
[I had a feeling]
but you always
exude diffidence.


II.

I woke up humming your song
[she plainly states]
it seems I can't escape from our proximity.
I haven't tried for long
[she waits]
tell me that you remember me?

I can't recall the tune
[I lie]
it seems like ages have transpired
since that fateful June
[July]
when our proximity expired.


III.

You do know
[she complicates]
the world is rarely seen in color
or shapes.

Is that so?
[I tempt the fates]
I know there's color in the shape
of embrace.


IV.

I could climb to heaven on -

[she counters my thought]
there's no need for flowered words
or poetry plots.

- but the curve of your lips -

I thought I told you to stop?
[she's getting perturbed]
now show me all that you've got.

Every problem can be explained
[she shakes a finger at me]
by one person waking up on the wrong side of the bed.

I think your logic's insane
[I wish to be lost at sea]
problems arise when people keep too much inside of their head.

Smoke lives free.
[she speaks aloud, I can see where this is headed]
Why can't we?
[I need a crowd to hide in, this is what I dreaded]
Why should wisps have all the fun?
[if she goes on, we'll both regret it]
I just don't think you're the one.
[I still can't quite believe she said it]


VII.

Everyday
[I think she's speaking, I'm not hearing anything that she says]
the world gives me another reason I should decide to stay.
[I'm watching clock hands twirl]
I need a future, somewhere away
from what we were
[tell me she's done, I've an appointment to make]
